Ajit Pawar Criticizes MP Amol Kolhe, Questions Celebrities in Politics

Pune News : In a public address at a farmers’ meet in Pune district’s Shirur constituency, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar took a dig at Shirur Lok Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) Amol Kolhe, stating that politics is not the actor-turned-politician’s forte. Pawar accused Kolhe of offering to resign two years into his term, highlighting the impact on his acting career.

Pawar, who played a key role in bringing Kolhe into the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and ensuring his victory in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, expressed disappointment in Kolhe’s political commitment. Despite the initial promise, Kolhe’s offer to resign raised questions about his dedication to public service, according to the deputy chief minister.

“People have questioned Kolhe’s visibility in the constituency in the last four years,” Pawar remarked, shedding light on the concerns raised by the public about Kolhe’s effectiveness as an MP.

Ajit Pawar further commented on the trend of political parties fielding celebrities when faced with formidable opponents, citing examples like Hema Malini, Sunny Deol, Govinda, Rajesh Khanna, Shatrughan Sinha, and Amitabh Bachchan. While acknowledging the mass appeal of celebrities, Pawar questioned their connection to politics and emphasized the need to evaluate their capabilities before involving them in electoral processes.

In response to Pawar’s criticism, Kolhe defended his political record, pointing out that unlike other celebrities, he was recognized as the best parliamentarian. The exchange between Pawar and Kolhe adds fuel to the ongoing debate about the role of celebrities in politics and their commitment to developmental work.
