72 villages in Pune district prone to landslides

PUNE: In 2014, a landslide took place in Malin in Ambegaon taluka. Later, the GSDA and GSI carried out a survey of villages which are in a dangerous condition. The survey had revealed that 23 villages face the risk of landslides. After GSI carried out a survey again, the number of villages facing the threat of landslides has increased to 72. It has been specified that rehabilitation of residents of two villagers should be carried out immediately. Implementation of necessary measures has been suggested in 70 villages.

The District Disaster Management Department had instructed the PWD to submit a report about measures taken to tackle landslides by October 30. After the district collectorate receives the report, it will be sent to the state government in the first week of November. Later, other measures will be taken. The GSI survey has revealed that maximum number of villages facing threat from landslides i.e. 23 are located in Ambegaon taluka.
The GSI survey mentioned that there are 72 villages in seven villages which face the threat of landslides. (Maval: 15, Velha: 10, Mulshi: 8, Khed: 6 and 5 each in Junnar and Bhor taluka) In the survey carried out in 2020, of 23 20 villages are included and the report states that immediate shifting of residents of Ghutke village in Mulshi taluka and Dhanvali in Bhor taluka should be carried out.

In remaining villages, measures like building a safety wall, removing the flow of water, planting of saplings or setting up temporary shelters have been suggested.
District Disaster Management Officer Vitthal Banote said, “The PWD has been instructed to send proposals about safety and preventive measures which should be taken in 70 landslide-prone villages. Accordingly, the PWD has sent proposals of works to be carried out in 35 villages and in many villages, preventive measures have been taken.”

Velhe: Tekpole, Ambwane, Singapore, Garjewadi, Ghol, Givshi, Mangaon, Dhangarwadi, Wadghar, Harpur.
