The Water Cup: A Fun and Competitive Approach to Conservation
Amidst growing concerns over water scarcity in the city, the members of Park Connect Society have taken matters into their own hands. In a bid to not only conserve water but also foster a sense of community and competition, the society introduced the ‘Water Cup’ initiative. Residents were tasked with installing water aerators in their taps to regulate the flow of water, thereby reducing wastage.
According to Tushar Khaire, a member of the Park Connect cultural team, each aerator can save up to 5 litres of water per minute. With 832 flats in the society, the potential for water conservation is significant. By encouraging every resident to participate, the society aimed to conserve up to 40 thousand litres of water every day.
A Community Effort: The Role of Water Soldiers
To ensure widespread participation, residents appointed 3-4 individuals from each building as ‘water soldiers’. These dedicated individuals were tasked with convincing their fellow residents to install aerators in their taps. The success of each building was measured based on the percentage of water saved per occupied flat after the installation of aerators.
The competition was fierce, with buildings vying for the title of the most water-conscious. Additionally, the best-performing team of water soldiers was also recognized for their efforts. In the end, the A block emerged victorious, while the I block was commended for its exceptional team of water soldiers.

With 500 flats onboard the water conservation initiative, Park Connect Society has reached a significant milestone. According to Tushar, if all 500 flats continue to use water aerators daily, the society could save up to 20,000 litres of water per day. This translates to a substantial reduction in the number of water tankers required, leading to cost savings and environmental benefits.
Looking ahead, Tushar emphasized the importance of continued water conservation efforts throughout the year.
