Pune: Two habitual criminals arrested for break-in theft at wine shop in Mundhwa (Video)

Pune: Two habitual criminals have been arrested for breaking into a wine shop and stealing bottles of liquor and cash from a wine shop within the jurisdiction of the Mundhwa Police Station.

Four accused broke into Viransh Wines and stole foreign liquor boxes and cash worth Rs 4.60 lakh. Valuables worth Rs 34,000 have been recovered from them.

The arrested accused have been identified as Omkar alias Palya Sudhakar Paramvar (24) and Arbaz Munir Shaikh (19), both residents of Khadki. Wine shop manager Suresh Kachrulal Devatwal (56), a resident of Manjari Budruk, lodged a complaint in this regard. A case has been registered under sections 380, 454 and 457 of the IPC.

Two squads were set up to investigate the case. They were investigating the case on the basis of CCTV footage. The footage from 250 CCTV cameras was examined in 15 days. Policemen from the probe squad Sachin Patil and Swapnil Raskar received a tip-off that the accused were to visit the Khadki area.

The squad set a trap and nabbed the two accused. On sustained interrogation, they confessed to have committed the crime, along with two others. The accused are criminals on the police records. They were booked in various house breakings within the limits of the Dattawadi, Khadki, Dighi, Lashkar, Yerwada and Faraskhana Police Stations. They were produced before the court, which sent them to police custody till January 23. Liquor bottle boxes worth over Rs 33,000 have been confiscated from the arrested. The police are trying to recover the stolen cash from them.

The action was taken under the guidance of Commissioner of Police (CP) Retesh Kumaarr, Joint CP (addl charge) Ramnath Pokale, Addl CP Ranjan Kumar Sharma, DCP (Zone 5) R Raja and ACP Ashwini Rakh. Senior PI Mahesh Bolkotgi, PI Sunita Roakade, API Sandeep Jore, police personnel Santosh Kale, Santosh Jagtap, Dinesh Bhandurge, Dinesh Rane, Mahesh Pathak, Rahul More, Swapnil Raskar, Hemant Perne and Sachin Patil took the action.
