Warasgaon Dam Reaches Full Capacity: Water Discharge Plans Await Rainfall Data

The Warasgaon Dam, a vital water source for the region, has reached its full capacity of 100%, signaling a positive development in the ongoing water situation. The irrigation department has indicated that preparations are underway to initiate water discharge from the dam, a move eagerly anticipated by the locals. However, the final decision to commence the discharge process hinges on the rainfall figures in the dam’s catchment areas.

As part of a proactive approach, officials have emphasized the significance of factoring in the actual rainfall received in the catchment regions before initiating the water discharge. This approach ensures that all decisions are based on accurate and current data, which is vital for effective water management.

The Pune district has witnessed comparatively lower rainfall this year, resulting in reduced water storage in some of the major dams that supply water to the city. Specifically, the four dams in the Khadakwasla cluster, which play a crucial role in water supply to Pune, have reported decreased storage levels compared to the previous year.

According to official data, the collective water storage in the Khadakwasla cluster dams was recorded at 94.57% (27.57 TMC) this year, in contrast to the 99.83% (29.10 TMC) reported on the same date last year. A breakdown of the storage levels includes 59.60% (1.18 TMC) at Khadakwasla Dam, 100% (10.65 TMC) at Panshet Dam, 99.77% (12.79 TMC) at Warasgaon Dam, and 79.62% (2.95 TMC) at Temghar Dam.
