Transparency in Action: PCMC Completes Verification for Maratha-Kunbi Certificates

In a significant step towards issuing Kunbi certificates to the Maratha community, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has successfully completed the verification process. After meticulous examination of 1,34,602 records spanning various departments, PCMC has identified 1,351 records related to the Maratha-Kunbi caste. The comprehensive report has been officially submitted to the Pune District Collector, marking a crucial milestone in the ongoing initiative.

Thorough Examination and Compliance

PCMC, in adherence to the directives of the Maharashtra State Government, conducted a thorough scrutiny of documents and records covering the period from 1948 to 1967, including those predating 1948. The examination encompassed documents from key departments such as Education, Taxation and Tax Collection, Health, and Accounting. While no Maratha-Kunbi records were discovered in 2,222 Health Department documents and 11,993 Taxation and Tax Collection Department documents, the Education Department yielded 1,351 Kunbi caste records from a total of 1,20,387 documents checked.

Next Steps in the Certification Process

The identified Kunbi records will now be organized village-wise, and online entries will be made available on the PCMC’s official website. This user-friendly approach allows individuals to access and review the records online. For those seeking a copy, a written application can be submitted to the Municipal Corporation. Following this, individuals can proceed to apply for a Kunbi certificate with the revenue authorities, submitting the necessary documentation to obtain the certificate.

Ongoing Commitment to Record Verification

Avinash Shinde, Assistant Commissioner and Nodal Officer at Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, affirmed the completion of the examination process involving 1,34,602 documents and the discovery of 1,351 entries related to the Kunbi caste. Despite this milestone, the department remains committed to further scrutiny, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the records.
