Revolutionizing Roadways: PCMC Approves Rs 500 Crore Project for Key Wards’ Connectivity Boost

Pimpri Chinchwad, 4th February 2024: In response to the burgeoning need for enhanced road connectivity in the critical “B” and “D” wards of Wakad, Punawale, Tathawade, Mamurdi, Ravet, and Vikas Nagar, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has given the nod to a transformative infrastructure project. Estimated at a staggering Rs. 500 crore, this initiative aims to reshape the transportation landscape of the region.

The brainchild of Shankar Jagtap, the BJP’s Pimpri-Chinchwad City president, this proactive initiative emerged from extensive discussions with residents, highlighting their concerns about the inadequate road infrastructure in the Chinchwad Assembly Constituency. Collaborating with Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh, Jagtap ensured that these issues were addressed within the Development Plan framework.

The identified roads are integral to the Development Plan (DP), and construction is set to begin soon. With the surge in housing projects, educational institutions, and the proximity to Hinjewadi IT Park and the Mumbai-Bangalore highway, the urgency for administrative action cannot be overstated.

The approved plans encompass the construction of service roads along the Mumbai-Bangalore highway, a bridge connecting Sangawade and Hinjawadi over the Pavana River near the Mamurdi crematorium, and various roads in different areas like Ravet, Vikasnagar, Punawale, and Wakad. Measures will be implemented to minimize disruptions during construction, with provisions for water supply pipelines, drainage lines, and power lines integral to the development plan.

Shankar Jagtap reiterated his commitment to enhancing roads within the Chinchwad Assembly Constituency, culminating in the approval of the initial phase of road construction. The proposed 34 kilometres of roads are expected to significantly alleviate citizen inconvenience, bolstering accessibility and transportation facilities. These developments will enhance connectivity between rural areas under PMRDA, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Hinjewadi IT Park, while the service roads will alleviate traffic pressure on the Pune-Bangalore highway. The PCMC commissioner has been tasked with promptly initiating construction work and ensuring the provision of necessary amenities for citizens.
