Traffic Branch Special Drive Targets Youthful Offenders, Highlights Road Safety Concerns
PCMC Pune- In a concerted effort to curb underage driving, the Pimpri Chinchwad police’s traffic branch recently conducted a targeted operation, resulting in fines issued to 571 minors for riding two-wheelers in violation of traffic regulations.
Cracking Down on Underage Drivers:
- Over the past week, the traffic branch intensified its enforcement efforts, identifying and penalizing minors below the age of 16 found operating vehicles across various areas of Pimpri Chinchwad.
- Fines totaling Rs 41.40 lakh were imposed collectively on the underage offenders, with responsibility falling on their parents for permitting such illegal activity.
Geographical Distribution of Offenders:
- Among the subdivisions of Pimpri Chinchwad, Chakan, Pimpri, and Talawade recorded the highest incidences of fines issued to underage drivers, with 156, 58, and 57 individuals respectively.
- The fine for underage driving stands at Rs 5,000, with provisions for doubling the penalty for repeat violations.
Commitment to Road Safety:
- Authorities reiterated their dedication to maintaining road safety standards by continuing the crackdown on underage driving.
- In addition to addressing underage driving, the traffic branch also took action against 677 individuals for wrong-side driving during the same period, underscoring the multifaceted approach to ensuring safe road practices.
As the enforcement drive persists, the focus remains on instilling a culture of responsible driving and safeguarding the well-being of all road users, particularly vulnerable youth.
