Pune’s Environmental Drive: PCMC Commissioner Urges Industrial Waste Water Data Submission

Pimpri: Taking significant steps to address environmental concerns, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has issued a call to entrepreneurs in the region, urging them to provide crucial data on industrial wastewater generated by their factories. This information is to be submitted to both the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the Maratha Chambers of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) as part of a comprehensive survey.

During a recent meeting chaired by Commissioner Shekhar Singh, the emphasis was placed on the necessity for all industrial units to cooperate by disclosing details about their industrial wastewater. To facilitate this process, a dedicated room will be established at the Maratha Chambers of Commerce Industries and Agriculture office.

Industries failing to provide or cooperate in submitting this vital information will face legal action. Commissioner Singh made it clear that the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, would be invoked to ensure compliance.

Despite an extended deadline, set until the end of September 2023, entrepreneurs in Pimpri Chinchwad city have yet to submit the required information regarding industrial wastewater to the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation office in Chinchwad and the Maratha Chambers of Commerce Industries and Agriculture office.

The call for data submission was reiterated during a meeting on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, led by Commissioner Shekhar Singh. The committee, formed under the guidance of Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant to combat industrial pollution of rivers in the Chinchwad area, met in the Commissioner’s Chamber. Key stakeholders, including the Chief Engineer of the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, representatives from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority, Maharashtra Pollution Control Corporation, members of the Maratha Chambers of Commerce Industries and Agriculture, as well as representatives of small enterprises and various social organizations, attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the gathering, the project consultant appointed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation delivered a comprehensive presentation in alignment with the directives of Industries Minister Uday Samant. Entrepreneurs were earnestly requested to expedite the submission of information regarding industrial wastewater, as prescribed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, to the Executive Engineer’s office in Chinchwad by August 30, 2023. The delay in receiving data from some industrial units has been hampering the project’s progress, and all concerned parties have been urged to promptly provide the necessary information on behalf of the Municipal Corporation.
