PUNE / PIMPRI : The work of laying the water pipeline to bring water from Bhama Askhed and Andra dam has been speeded up. It is being planned to complete work of the pipeline and the water purification centre by 2025, said Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh. Hence, the residents who are being supplied water every alternate day, may get water every day after 2025.
The PCMC is going to bring 267 MLD water from Andra and Bhama Askhed dams considering the expansion of the city and the population till 2045. The civic body has set up a water purification centre in Chikhali on an area of eight hectares. At present, water is being lifted from the barrage at Nighoje at Andra dam and supplied to residents of newly-included villages. However, water supply is proving inadequate for the growing population and complaints are increasing.
The work of the pipeline to bring water from the Bhama Askhed dam is taking place on the land belonging to PWD, MIDC, NHAI, Forest Department and Water Resources Department. Hence, there are problems in land acquisition. A way has been found and the work has been speeded up. The work of the eight km pipeline has been completed in civic limits and a monthly review is being held. Shekhar Singh said that the work would be over by 2025.
The residents of the city are being supplied water through Pavana and Andra dams. The civic body uses 510 MLD water from Pavana dam, 70 MLD from Chikhali dam and 13 MLD from MIDC i.e. 593 MLD water every day.
Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh said, “The state government has lifted the stay on the Pavana closed water pipeline project. Talks are going on with the old contractor about starting the work. A final decision about whether a new blueprint should be prepared or work should continue as earlier, is yet to be taken. A decision will be taken after considering technical parameters.”
