Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Encourages Eco-Friendly Ganesh Idols

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)

Pimpri-Chinchwad: In an effort to promote eco-friendly practices during the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi and Navaratri festivals, the Pimpri Municipal Corporation has urged artisans to refrain from using plaster of Paris (PoP) in the creation of Ganesh idols. Instead, the corporation emphasizes the use of eco-friendly materials and natural colors.

The move comes as part of the municipality’s commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. Plaster of Paris idols have long been a concern due to their non-biodegradable nature, posing a threat to water bodies when immersed after the festivities. By encouraging the use of eco-friendly materials, the municipality aims to reduce the environmental impact of the celebrations.

Additionally, the Pimpri Municipal Corporation has introduced a registration requirement for artisans and vendors involved in idol-making or selling. This ensures that the idols being produced and sold meet the specified eco-friendly criteria. Unauthorized vendors and businesses selling idols without registration will face legal action, as the municipality seeks to enforce these guidelines strictly.

By promoting eco-friendly practices and ensuring compliance, the Pimpri Municipal Corporation aims to create a greener and more sustainable festival environment. It is a collective effort to raise awareness among artisans, vendors, and the general public about the importance of preserving the environment while celebrating religious festivals.
