PCMC Slaps Rs 10 Lakh Fine on Landowner for Industrial Waste Fire in Pimpri-Chinchwad

In response to the industrial waste fire incident that occurred in Morwadi, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken stringent action by issuing a notice to the landowner, imposing a hefty fine of Rs 10 lakh for air pollution and burning of industrial waste on the vacant land.

Sanjay Kulkarni, Joint City Engineer (Environment) at PCMC, stated, “We have issued a notice to the landowner and imposed a fine of Rs 10 Lakh. The deadline for paying the fine is 8 days. Failure to comply within this timeframe will result in the fine being attached to their property tax.”

The fire, which ignited on 21st February 2024, persisted for three days in Morwadi. Soil was deployed to extinguish the flames. However, the incident resulted in the release of a substantial amount of poisonous smoke, posing a serious health threat to local residents. The accumulation of industrial waste in open areas, leading to such fires, has raised concerns about citizens’ safety, prompting the imposition of a significant fine on the landowner.
