PCMC Issues 426 Notices as Pimpri Chinchwad Intensifies Fire Safety Measures

Pimpri, 31st January 2024: In a proactive move to strengthen fire safety regulations, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued a total of 426 notices to commercial establishments following the findings of a recent survey.

The comprehensive fire prevention survey, conducted by women from authorized self-help groups under the Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal (MAVIM), Pune, aims to assess the fire safety infrastructure in commercial buildings. The ongoing survey has already identified 2,423 hazardous properties out of the 43,000 surveyed. Efforts are underway to complete the survey and evaluate the fire safety infrastructure of the remaining properties.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh emphasized the corporation’s dedication to ensuring the safety of all residents and properties within Pimpri Chinchwad civic limits. He stated, “We are committed to addressing any lapses swiftly and effectively through the ongoing survey, which aims to evaluate the fire safety infrastructure of commercial buildings.”

Underlining the urgency for establishments to rectify deficiencies promptly, Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil stated, “Immediate action is essential to ensure the safety of both occupants and properties, and we urge cooperation from the establishment owners and occupants.”

Deputy Commissioner Manoj Lonkar stressed the need for full cooperation from commercial establishment owners and occupiers, citing recent fire incidents that revealed violations of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Acts. Lonkar added, “We have observed occupants residing within commercial establishments exceeding storage capacity and deviating from approved commercial plans. Expediting the survey and issuing notices is necessary.”
