PCMC Initiates Comprehensive Structural Audit of 150 Public Toilets in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pune, [Date]: In a bid to ensure the safety and structural integrity of its public amenities, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has greenlit a comprehensive structural audit for a total of 150 public toilets scattered across the city. This crucial initiative falls under the ambit of the Swachh Survekshan campaign, which aims to enhance the overall sanitation and hygiene standards of the region. To facilitate this endeavor, PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh has allocated a budget of Rs 22 lakhs.

Over the years, PCMC has diligently constructed public toilets to cater to the convenience of its residents. While some of these facilities remain relatively new, a considerable number of older toilets have deteriorated due to wear and tear. Among the existing inventory, approximately 150 toilets have exhibited signs of structural compromise, warranting a thorough audit for a detailed assessment of their condition.

In addition to the public toilets, the structural audit will extend to buildings constructed by PCMC approximately four decades ago for administrative purposes. These structures, scattered across various parts of the city, now display signs of aging and dilapidation. Moreover, housing projects executed in localities such as Pimpri, Wakad, Chinchwad, Nigdi, Akurdi, and Bhosari have also been identified for evaluation due to observed concerns. Issues such as collapsing roof slabs, bent and broken window frames, and damaged porch walls have raised alarms about the safety of residents and pedestrians alike.

With safety and community welfare at the forefront, the PCMC Commissioner has allocated funds for this comprehensive audit. This proactive measure will not only identify potential risks but also pave the way for necessary renovations and repairs to mitigate any hazards. The audit is set to play a pivotal role in maintaining the structural integrity of public facilities and ensuring the well-being of the residents they serve.
