PCMC Extends Olive Branch: Chikhali Residents Granted Access to Ground Amidst Equestrian Academy Dispute

In a bid to address the concerns of Chikhali residents, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has made the decision to open the ground initially earmarked for an equestrian academy. The move comes following strong objections from the residents, who had planned to forcefully enter the ground for Shiv Jayanti celebrations.

The ground had been off-limits to residents due to the presence of structures related to the proposed equestrian academy. However, after facing resistance and protests from locals, the municipal corporation reconsidered its stance.

The decision to relocate the equestrian academy was prompted by protests from residents asserting that the open ground was a vital community space. The residents emphasized its significance as the sole open ground in the area, fueling their demand for access.

Mininath Dandwate, Deputy Commissioner of PCMC, stated, “We were searching for an alternative space to shift the equestrian academy due to which the ground was not opened for citizens. However, citizens want to celebrate Shiv Jayanti on this ground on Feb 19, and they had given a call for protest. Hence, we have communicated to them that the ground will be opened for the public, but a shed built for horses will remain in one part of the ground for some days, and they have agreed to it.”

This decision signifies a compromise between the civic body and residents, allowing the ground to be used for public events while accommodating the equestrian academy’s transitional requirements.
