PCMC Cracks Down on Tax Defaulters: 200 Properties Seized, Water Disconnected

Pimpri Chinchwad, 12th January 2024: In a bold move, the tax department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated stringent measures against property owners who failed to settle their pending property tax dues from April to December in the current fiscal year. Striving to recover outstanding taxes, the civic body has seized 200 properties and disconnected water connections to 17 residential and commercial establishments.

Despite prior notices and warnings issued to defaulting property owners, only 7,080 out of 33,241 recipients have paid their pending property tax, totaling Rs 73.2 crore. The cumulative pending tax, however, remains a substantial Rs 584.4 crore, with 26,161 property owners owing the civic body Rs 511.25 crore in property tax.

A senior PCMC officer emphasized, “The pending tax for most of these properties is very high. Owners will receive another notice, providing them with an opportunity to settle their dues. Failure to comply will result in the confiscated properties being put up for auction.”

The areas most affected by property seizures include Phugewadi (38 properties), Kiwale (32 properties), and Moshi (29 properties). Details of 110 confiscated properties have been forwarded to the town planning department for valuation, initiating the auction process. This encompasses properties seized in the current fiscal year, as well as some from previous years.

Pradeep Jambhale Patil, the additional commissioner of PCMC, outlined the corporation’s intention to auction a total of 500 confiscated properties. Legal experts are collaborating with concerned officials to streamline the auction process and ensure compliance with legal protocols.

The PCMC’s proactive measures aim to compel property owners to fulfill their tax obligations and contribute to the civic body’s financial health.
