Nana Kate Joins Forces with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to Tackle Punawale Garbage Depot Issue

Rahatani, Pune, November 6, 2023: Former opposition leader Nana Kate has pledged his support to the residents of Punawale in addressing concerns surrounding a proposed garbage depot. The residents, who recently organized a bike rally to protest the depot, met with Nana Kate to seek his assistance in finding a resolution to the issue.

Back in 2008, the Municipal Corporation approved a solid waste management project in Punawale, which, at the time, was less urbanized. However, the area’s population has since burgeoned to over one lakh residents, drawn by its natural surroundings, proximity to an IT park, and essential amenities. The proposed waste depot has faced staunch opposition from residents, while the municipal administration is still in the process of acquiring land in Chandrapur for its establishment.

Corporater Nana Kate expressed, “The planned waste depot at Punawale is surrounded by several elite societies, and its residents will bear the brunt of its presence. Many IT professionals have made their homes in this area, and significant buildings have been constructed near the proposed depot. I intend to engage in discussions with Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar to explore the possibility of relocating the Punawale Garbage Depot to a different part of the city, prioritizing the well-being of the residents.”
