Maratha Reservation Survey: Pimpri-Chinchwad Completes 100% Assessment Across 6 Lakh Properties

In a significant stride towards understanding the social and educational challenges faced by the Maratha community, Pimpri-Chinchwad city has successfully completed a comprehensive survey covering every single household across its registered and unregistered properties. The survey, conducted over two days by a dedicated team of 2,000 personnel supervised by field officers, aimed to assess the social and educational disadvantages experienced by the Maratha-Kunbi and Kunbi-Maratha communities.

The city boasts a total of 6.50 lakh registered properties spread across 17 taxation and tax collection zones, complemented by an additional 1 lakh unregistered properties. The exhaustive survey, which included marking each surveyed house, gathered valuable information from every household, addressing 180 questions that spanned a wide range of topics with alternative options.

The survey was carried out under the directive of the state government, which set a deadline of February 2, 2024, to evaluate the social and educational challenges faced by the Maratha community. The entire administrative machinery was mobilized to ensure the survey’s completion within the stipulated timeframe.

Enumerators, numbering 1,974, were appointed under eight regional offices of the Municipal Corporation, along with supervisors, nodal officers, clerks, and other staff. The civic staff worked diligently for 12 hours each day over the two days to ensure the survey’s completion.

Despite some challenges, such as closed houses and residents being temporarily away, the enumerators managed to survey 80 percent of the houses by January 31. The final 20 percent was swiftly covered in the two-day extension granted, during which the enumerators worked from seven in the morning until ten or eleven at night.

Avinash Shinde, Assistant Commissioner, PCMC, declared, “The Maratha survey has been completed 100 percent in the city. The information of the society has been collected by going door to door with an income of six lakhs in the city. Therefore, a 100 percent survey of Maratha society has been completed.”
