Kasarwadi Chlorine Gas Incident: Bhosari MLA Calls for Responsibility

Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge Demands Accountability in Chlorine Gas Leak Tragedy

In a shocking incident that sent ripples of concern through the community, 16 people fell ill after inhaling chlorine gas that leaked at the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Swimming Pool in Kasarwadi. The incident occurred on a Tuesday morning at 8 am and prompted Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge to visit Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital, where the victims were admitted. During his visit, Landge did not mince words as he instructed Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) officials to take decisive action against those responsible for the tragic accident.

Taking to Twitter, Landge expressed his dismay, saying, “A tragic chlorine leakage incident occurred at the Kasarwadi swimming pool, affecting 22 people. They are all being treated at YCM Hospital. I visited the hospital today to check on their condition and immediately instructed PCMC officials to bear the cost of their treatment and to take strict action against the agency responsible for the carelessness.”

Understanding the Chlorine Gas Leak Incident

The distressing incident unfolded as a cylinder containing chlorine gas began to leak, unleashing a wave of panic and health concerns among those present. The effects of chlorine gas inhalation were immediate and severe, causing breathing difficulties, coughing, sore throats, and, in some cases, even loss of consciousness. First responders, including the fire brigade and the police, arrived swiftly at the scene, taking immediate action to contain the crisis. They sealed the leaking cylinder and submerged it in the pool, allowing the gas to dissolve harmlessly in the water.

An official on the scene explained the situation, saying, “We cordoned off the area and evacuated people. At least 16 individuals who were in the pool inhaled the gas and were promptly transported to a civic-run hospital for treatment.”

This unfortunate incident underscores the pressing need for a thorough investigation and accountability. The safety of public spaces, especially those meant for recreation and relaxation, must be paramount. Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge’s swift response to the situation and his call for strict action against those responsible serve as a reminder of the importance of accountability in such matters.
