Pimpri Chinchwad: The Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri Chinchwad finds itself embroiled in a financial scandal as a contract employee faces allegations of embezzling lakhs of rupees from the hospital’s cash counter. The accused, employed in the hospital’s cash department, was apprehended for engaging in fraudulent activities.
The hospital, renowned for its 750-bed capacity and strategic location at the heart of the industrial city, caters to a multitude of patients daily. Notably, the emergency department’s cash counter, labelled number 44, witnesses a constant influx of visitors in the afternoon, even after the regular OPD hours.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the accused, operating on a 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. shift, systematically pilfered funds over the past ten months by invoicing bogus receipts. The suspect, affiliated with a major municipal contractor, exploited the hospital’s daily cash deposits, comprising invoices amounting to thousands of rupees.
In response to the revelation, YCM Hospital’s administration has taken action by transferring the implicated employee to another department within the hospital. Rather than immediate suspension, the civic administration has opted for a cautious approach, initiating a comprehensive examination of the misappropriated documents.
Dr. Rajendra Wable, the Dean of YCM Hospital, confirmed the closure of the implicated cash counter with immediate effect. He asserted that all receipts from January onward are currently under scrutiny, revealing preliminary discrepancies. Dr. Wable emphasised the gravity of the situation, ensuring a thorough inquiry into the alleged embezzlement. He further maintained that the hospital administration is committed to ensuring a fair and just proceeding in this matter.
