Dengue Cases on the Rise in Pimpri-Chinchwad City: Precautions Urged

Pimpri-Chinchwad City, a locality in Maharashtra, is witnessing a concerning surge in dengue cases, with fifty-eight patients testing positive for the disease since the beginning of this year. The month of July alone reported thirty-six cases, and August has recorded twenty-two cases so far. This sudden increase in dengue cases has raised alarm bells, prompting the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to issue a plea for citizens to exercise caution and adhere to preventive measures.

Interestingly, there were no reported cases of dengue in the city during June, a month that marked the onset of rains in the region. The situation changed in the subsequent months, with doctors diagnosing a handful of patients with dengue after they exhibited symptoms of fever. August, in particular, has seen twenty-two confirmed cases.

Dr. Abhaychandra Dadewar, Additional Health Medical Officer of the PCMC, emphasized the importance of seeking immediate medical attention upon noticing any dengue-like symptoms. “Prompt and proper treatment is essential if you exhibit symptoms of dengue. Maintaining cleanliness in your surroundings is crucial,” he advised. Dr. Dadewar also suggested that citizens remain vigilant and cautious until October, as the cases tend to decrease post that period.

The symptoms of dengue encompass high fever, severe headaches, muscle and joint pain, vomiting, eye pain, body rashes, weakness, loss of appetite, and dry mouth. The mosquitoes responsible for dengue lay their eggs in clean water, making it imperative to prevent water accumulation near homes. The PCMC’s recommendations include the disposal of scrap materials from backyards and terraces, reducing potential mosquito breeding sites.

To bolster immunity and safeguard against dengue, consuming nutrition-rich foods containing vitamin C, such as fruit juices, guava, kiwi, and papaya, is advised. Additionally, staying hydrated through fluids like sugarcane juice, lime juice, and coconut water can be beneficial.

To curb mosquito growth, individuals can take several preventive steps:

  1. Applying oil to stagnant water to disrupt mosquito breeding.
  2. Using insecticides in open water sources.
  3. Sleeping under mosquito nets to prevent bites.
  4. Applying mosquito repellents on exposed skin.
  5. Opting for clothing that covers the entire body, minimizing exposure to mosquito bites.

In the face of this dengue outbreak, the responsibility falls on both the local authorities and the residents to collaborate in minimizing the spread of the disease. By adhering to preventive measures, raising awareness, and practicing collective vigilance, the community can work towards curbing the dengue menace and ensuring public health and safety.
