Chikhli Water Supply Expansion Delivers Relief to 90,000 Residents and More

Pune News

Chikhli, 18th October 2023: In a substantial leap forward in water supply infrastructure, approximately 90,000 residents in Chikhli and its neighboring areas are set to experience relief from long-standing water scarcity issues. The municipal administration has embarked on a significant initiative to directly supply water from the Chikhli Water Purification Center to the water reservoir at Patil Nagar.

A Comprehensive Solution

To address the water needs of villages situated near Bhosari, a comprehensive solution has been meticulously planned. The blueprint involves sourcing combined water from the Pavana and Andhra projects, a move that is expected to provide a sustainable solution to the persistent water scarcity concerns.

Infrastructure Milestones

The dedication and tireless efforts of the municipal administration have culminated in the construction of a water tank in Chikhli, boasting an impressive capacity of 20 lakh liters. This reservoir is supplied with a daily influx of approximately 16 million liters from the Ravet embankment of the Pavana project. Consequently, residents now enjoy an extended water supply of 20 to 22 hours on one day and three to four hours on the following day.

Furthermore, a newly established water treatment plant in Chikhli is prepared to handle water from the Andhra project. The project included the installation of a 600 mm channel to efficiently transport the water to the water tank situated at Patil Nagar. By harnessing the water resources of both the Pavana and Andhra projects, the municipal administration anticipates a seamless and robust water supply system for the region.

MLA Mahesh Landge underscored the significance of this water supply expansion, emphasizing, “The water supply system has been designed to meet the needs of the expanding population in the villages over the next 30 years. Concurrent work on the Bhama Askhed project further contributes to this endeavor, with Andhra water poised to enter the water reservoir at Patil Nagar, effectively resolving the water issue.”
