YCM Hospital witnessed a tumultuous incident on Sunday midnight as a father and his child were arrested by the police for assaulting hospital staff and a doctor. The altercation stemmed from a dispute over a CT scan, escalating into a violent confrontation between the doctor, police, and the accused.
Norman Lirus Arlen, aged 48, and Sharveen Norman Arlen, aged 23, brought Riya Patil, Pranav Patil, and Sharman Arlen to YCM Hospital around 1 am after sustaining injuries in Moshi. The three were attended to by resident doctors from the Post Graduate Institute of YCM Hospital.
The situation escalated when Riya was advised to undergo a CT scan, a suggestion the patients resisted. They demanded the issuance of the ‘MLC’ (Medico-Legal Certificate) paper early and an augmentation of the recorded injuries. A heated argument ensued between the two doctors and the father-child duo.
In response, Norman and Sharveen Arlen physically attacked and abused the two doctors, even threatening their acquaintance with an MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly). Upon learning of the assault, police personnel stationed at YCM Hospital promptly intervened and took Norman and Sharveen into custody.
The situation took a more chaotic turn when, in police custody, the doctor retaliated by assaulting the father-child duo. Attempting to intervene, the police were pushed by the doctor, leading to a brief scuffle between the three parties in the presence of other patients.
Senior municipal officials and police officers mediated the conflict, resolving the matter. While no formal complaint was lodged, a case has been registered at Pimpri police station against Norman Lirus Arlen and Sharveen Norman Arlen for assaulting the doctor and obstructing government work.
