PCMC sets up 16 squads to take action against those causing air pollution

Pimpri: Littering public places and burning solid waste will now invite penalties in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The civic body has set up special squads to take action against such people. Any laxity during this drive by civic officials will lead to strict action, said Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh.

A high court directive, expressing concerns over the deteriorating air quality, has ordered the civic administration to take measures to address the issue. The civic body has now woken up. Additional Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale held a meeting in this regard. Additional Municipal Commissioner Vijaykumar Khorate, City Engineer Makarand Nikam and Health Officer Dr Laxman Gophane were present.

All departments concerned were issued directions to check air pollution within the jurisdiction of the civic body. Vehicles transporting construction material have to be covered. Vehicles will run only after showering water on their tyres. Construction sites should also be covered and iron barricades should be installed around them. Violators should be penalised. Civic officials not taking action against such people or agencies will be dealt with sternly.

16 special squads to check air pollution

As many as 16 special squads have been deployed in 32 wards of the PCMC to implement the guidelines and to curb air pollution. A squad will comprise a deputy engineer, a sanitary inspector, civil engineering assistant and MSF staff.

Action will be taken against those burning sold waste and littering public places. Special squads have been formed for the purpose and rules will be implemented strictly.
