Tourist Influx Jams Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Causes Delays

he Mumbai-bound carriageway of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway experienced two closures on Saturday morning due to a significant vehicular pileup on the Pune-bound carriageway in the Borghat section. The congestion, spanning over 2 km between Dattawadi and Amrutanjan bridge, resulted from increased tourist traffic on the expressway.

The highway safety patrol had to implement temporary closures, shutting a 2.7 km long stretch of the Mumbai-bound carriageway between 9 am and 11.30 am. The closures were initiated for 22 minutes and 21 minutes respectively to facilitate the clearing of the vehicular pileup.

The surge in tourist traffic, particularly on weekends, has become a common occurrence, leading to occasional disruptions and delays on the expressway. Authorities are actively working to address these challenges and ensure smooth traffic flow.

Officials are urging travelers to plan their journeys, especially during peak travel times, and stay updated on traffic conditions to avoid inconveniences. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is a vital link between the two major cities, and measures are being explored to enhance its capacity and address the increasing volume of tourist-related traffic.
