Security Scare at Kalyan Railway Station: 54 Detonators Found Unattended on Platform

In a shocking incident on February 21, 2024, authorities discovered more than 54 detonators lying unattended on platform number one at Kalyan Railway Station in Thane, Maharashtra, as reported by a Government Railway Police official.

The Railway Police, on routine patrol, stumbled upon 54 boxes without supervision, prompting immediate action. Concerned about the densely populated area and potential security threat, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the dog squad were swiftly deployed to the scene.

Senior police officials and the Thane police responded promptly upon receiving information about the unattended boxes. The BDDS team carefully examined the boxes and successfully removed all 54 detonators from the platform. While an investigation is underway, no formal case has been registered as of now.

Detonators in the Thane region are commonly used for illegal fishing activities or in quarry blasting operations. They are also employed to create shock waves in water, a method known to be used in the region for fishing, causing a significant concern for public safety.

The incident has raised questions about the security measures at crowded railway stations, prompting authorities to address the potential risks associated with such discoveries.
