Provide substantial help to Maharashtra’s crisis-ridden farmers immediately: Nana Patole

Nana Patole

Mumbai, July 24 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Nana Patole on Monday demanded the state government provide immediate assistance to the farmers in distress.

Participating in a discussion in the state Assembly, Patole said the state government has failed to provide any relief to the famers who are in crisis.

The state government only announces, but does not implement, said Patole, pointing out no survey has been done on the losses incurred by the farmers due to unseasonal rains last year.

Patole said due to heavy rains, lakhs of hectares of agricultural land have submerged, water has entered people’s houses, foodgrains have been wasted, and many are starving. Suicides of farmers and the poor have increased, he claimed.

Patole demanded substantial government help for those who have suffered losses.

Farmers, all common people have lost faith in this government, and there is a need to regain thei faith, he said.

Patole alleged that despite the minister concerned’s pronouncements about instructions having been given to the officials for reaching help ot the farmers, nothing has been implemented on the ground. He said the government has announced insurance for the farmers against a premium of one rupee, but there is a need for a statement on the issue.
