Nagpur, Aug 16 (UNI) The vibrant Parsi community in Nagpur, along with their fellow community members across India, celebrated the Parsi New Year, also known as Navroz, on Wednesday.

This festive occasion holds immense cultural and spiritual significance as it marks the commencement of the Zoroastrian calendar.

The celebration brought families and friends together in a spirit of joy and togetherness.

People exchanged warm greetings, partook in sumptuous festive feasts, and donned new attire to symbolise the new beginnings that this day represents.

A predominant feature of the celebrations was a visit to fire temples, where prayers were offered for the well-being of loved ones and for the overall prosperity of the community.

Amidst the revelry, cultural and traditional activities took centre stage. The festivities extended beyond merriment, as the Parsi New Year is characterised by deep symbolism.

This day stands as a testament to the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

The term “Navroz” itself translates to “new day,” encapsulating the essence of hope and the opportunity for a fresh start in the forthcoming year.

One of the cornerstones of the Parsi New Year celebrations is the visitation of the fire temple, which occurs following a traditional breakfast.

This act is significant as fire holds a sacred place in Zoroastrianism, symbolising purity and divine energy.

Furthermore, the community actively participates in the “Jashan” ceremony, a momentous prayer of gratitude and repentance that underscores the spiritual essence of the occasion.

Beyond the festive customs, this occasion serves as a reminder of the enduring values and beliefs that the Parsi community upholds.

As the community embarked on this new year, they embraced the promise of renewal, unity, and the anticipation of a year filled with prosperity.
