Mumbai’s Christmas Gift: Trans Harbour Link Unveiling on December 25

As the festive spirit engulfs Mumbai, the city of dreams is set to receive a monumental gift this Christmas – the opening of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) on December 25. This project, deemed one of the most significant and eagerly awaited in the city, marks a transformative moment for Mumbai’s infrastructure.

Anticipation and Joy:

The MTHL, touted as the longest sea bridge in the country, is ready to embrace the public just in time for the holiday season. The festive announcement has generated excitement and joy among Mumbai residents, who have been eagerly anticipating the completion of this landmark project.

Project Status:

According to reports from a news agency, the MTHL is slated for public use by December 25, although the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Association (MMRDA) is yet to make an official announcement. The project, currently at 97 percent completion, reflects significant progress.

Key Features and Cost:

Stretching across a distance of 52 kilometers, the MTHL connects Sewri in South Mumbai to Chirle in the district of Raigad. The bridge, with a staggering construction cost of ₹18,000 crores, spans 16 kilometers over water and an additional six kilometers on the ground. With 130 CCTV poles, 78 already installed, and more than half of the toll infrastructure ready, the MTHL promises to be a state-of-the-art addition to Mumbai’s landscape.

Anticipated Daily Traffic:

Once operational, the MMRDA estimates that approximately 70,000 vehicles will traverse the bridge daily, significantly easing traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity.

Festive Inauguration:

While the Chief Minister of the state, Eknath Shinde, took a brief ride on the bridge on May 24 this year, the official opening on December 25 will mark a festive inauguration and a momentous occasion for the city.
