Maha Govt to introduce strict law against sale of bogus seeds: DyCM

Devendra Fadnavis

Mumbai, Jul 17 (UNI) Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday told the state Assembly that a new legislation is being drafted to make non-bailable offences against sellers of bogus seeds like Bt seeds and fertilisers.

Making this announcement in the lower house, he expressed that the state government was committed to help farmers if their crops are damaged due to heavy rains and said an emergency plan has been prepared for it.

He reiterated that the state government stands firmly with the farmers and said farmers have so far been helped to tune of Rs 10,000 crore.

Farmers who have not given their KYC will also get help soon once the process is completed, the DyCM said.

He further said that except for some parts of Pune and Nashik Divisions, 80 per cent sowing had been completed in various parts of the state, as compared to last year.

The situation was reviewed in the Cabinet meeting on Sunday (yesterday), he informed.

The Meteorological Department has predicted good rains in the coming weeks, added Fadnavis.
