Faulty Elevator Incident Leads to FIR Against Society Chairman and Secretary

An FIR was lodged on Sunday against the chairman and secretary of a housing society by a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer after his son and grandson had a harrowing experience in the society’s malfunctioning elevator. The police have not only detained the two society officials but also booked the security guard and a senior executive from the elevator maintenance company.

The incident occurred on Sunday, prompting the complainant, a retired IG, to file a police complaint. According to the FIR, the son and grandson of the complainant were using the elevator to go out on Sunday afternoon. However, they found themselves trapped between the P2 level and the first floor, leading to a distressing situation.

Upon hearing screams, the complainant rushed to the scene, only to discover his family members in peril. When he sought assistance from the security guard, he was informed that it was Sunday, and nobody would be available to help. The guard advised him to contact the society’s secretary and chairman.

The chairman promised to seek help from the lift companies, while the secretary did not answer the phone, according to the FIR. The lift company’s official instructed the complainant not to contact him directly but to ask the society’s officials to get in touch when seeking assistance.

A nearby tower’s technician ultimately helped rescue the complainant’s son and grandson from the malfunctioning elevator. The complainant revealed that the elevators in the society had been dysfunctional for the past two months, and despite their deteriorating condition, the lift company executive, society chairman, secretary, and security guard neglected the matter, jeopardizing the lives of his family members.
