MMRDA’s Game-Changing Flyover Project Nears Completion for Signal-Free Airport Commuting

Mumbai, October 31, 2023: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is on the verge of completing a revolutionary flyover project that promises to transform airport commuting, making it smoother and completely signal-free. This flyover, located adjacent to the existing Vile Parle bridge, is set to significantly reduce travel time to the airport.

Innovative Construction Approaches

The ‘Airport Terminal – T1’ flyover has reached a remarkable milestone, with approximately 70% of the construction work completed. What makes this achievement even more impressive is the innovative construction method used. The project has employed an inverted T arrangement, allowing for the launching of girders over the bustling Western Express Highway (WEH) without the need for ground-based trestle support. This cutting-edge approach has minimized traffic disruptions, ensuring that daily commuters face minimal inconveniences.

Seamless Airport Access

Designed specifically for Bandra-bound traffic from Terminal 2, the flyover is a two-lane, one-way structure with an estimated cost of Rs 48.43 crore. Spanning a length of 615 meters and a width of 8 meters over two lanes, this flyover is poised to deliver a seamless and signal-free traffic flow for individuals traveling from the airport to Bandra.

The project’s pioneering approach to launching steel girders without ground-based support exemplifies its dedication to reducing disruptions and maintaining a smooth traffic flow.
