CLP leader expresses concern over wastage of kharif crops due to scanty rainfall

Mumbai, Aug 27 (UNI) Congress Legislature Party Leader in Maharashtra Assembly Balasaheb Thorat has said that due to paucity of rains in August, not only the kharif crops were wilted but also scarcity of drinking water and fodder has arisen.

Talking to newsmen at the party head office here on Saturday, he asked what is the Maharashtra government doing to tackle the situation and sought to know where were the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Ministers?

They are not paying attention to the drought-like situation, he said.

Following fall in onion prices, the central government announced its decision to p-rchase two lakh tonnes of onions through NAFED at Rs 2,410, he said.

Blaming NAFED for having laid down very strict conditions for buying onions, Thorat accused the BJP-led government of ignoring farmers plight.
