MUMBAI: The ACB Mumbai has arrested a PI and havaldar of Mulund police station red handed while accepting the first instalment of a bribe of ₹2 lakh after demanding a bribe of ₹25 lakh by threatening to arrest a man whose anticipatory bail plea was rejected.

The accused have been identified as PI Bhushan Mukundalal Dayma (40) and Havaldar Ramesh Machindra Batkalas (46). A 35-year-old man has lodged a complaint. An FIR is registered against the complainant at the Mulund police station. The PI and havaldar offered to help the complainant and dilute the charges against him and threatened to arrest him as his anticipatory bail plea had been rejected. They demanded a bribe of ₹25 lakh for not arresting him.

The complainant lodged a complaint with the ACB on July 7. The complaint was verified on July 11 and 13. PI Dayma agreed to accept ₹11 lakh as a compromise. Accordingly, a trap was laid on Friday. They were arrested red handed while accepting the first instalment of ₹2 lakh.

The action was taken under the guidance of Addl CP Vijay Patil, Addl CP Sanjeev Bhole, Addl SP Avinash Kande by ACP Salunkhe Patil, PI Vidya Jadhav and their aides.
