Delhi-NCR woke up to a challenging Wednesday morning as thick fog enveloped the region, causing significant disruptions to transportation services. Over 50 flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport experienced delays, prompting advisories that non-CAT III compliant flights might face disruptions. Passengers were advised to check with airlines for real-time flight updates.
Train schedules to and from Delhi were also severely impacted, with notable delays reported across various routes. The city witnessed its coldest January in 21 years, with a mean maximum temperature of 17.9 degrees Celsius, marking the lowest since 2003. Trains, including New Delhi-Moga Express and Puri-New Delhi Express, faced delays ranging from two to six and a half hours.
According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 10°C on Wednesday, marking the second-lowest January minimum temperature in the past 13 years.
