Meta Expands Instagram Subscriptions Globally: Here’s What You Need to Know

Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has announced the global expansion of the Instagram subscriptions feature to all eligible creators in several countries, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Eligible creators in these countries will gain access to the subscriptions feature in the next few weeks, allowing them to earn through support from their fans.

With Instagram subscriptions, creators can set a monthly price of their choice, granting subscribers access to exclusive content such as posts, Live videos, Stories, reels, and highlights. This feature enables creators to develop deeper connections with their most engaged followers and build stronger relationships with their audience.

To qualify for Instagram subscriptions, creators must be 18 years or older and have over 10,000 followers. Currently, there are eight options for the monthly subscription fee, ranging from $0.99 to $99.99. Subscribers will also receive a special badge placed next to their comments and messages, helping creators identify and prioritize interactions with their subscribers.

The Instagram subscriptions feature was initially launched in the United States in January 2022, where it allowed creators to earn a recurring income from their fans. Now, Meta plans to roll out access to Instagram subscriptions worldwide in the coming months, making it available to creators across the globe.

Meta’s expansion of Instagram subscriptions is aimed at empowering creators and providing them with more opportunities to monetize their content on the platform. By offering exclusive content and benefits to subscribers, creators can enhance their engagement and loyalty among their most dedicated followers.

In addition to the global expansion of Instagram subscriptions, Meta’s newly launched platform, Instagram Threads, has taken action to combat increasing spam attacks. The platform has put a rate limit on the number of posts users can view in a day to address the rising issue of spam. Instagram Chief Adam Mosseri shared this update through a Thread post, mentioning that they are tightening rate limits to improve spam protection. Although this measure might unintentionally limit active users (false positives), users are encouraged to report any issues they encounter.
