Go First Extends Flight Cancellations Till July 30 Citing Operational Reasons

Go First, the airline that has been facing operational challenges since May, has announced another extension of flight cancellations until July 30. The decision was attributed to operational reasons, and the airline apologized for any inconvenience caused to passengers.

The situation for Go First took a turn for the worse on May 2 when the airline had to cancel its flights and filed for voluntary bankruptcy before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The company cited delays from a US-based engine maker, Pratt & Whitney, for its inability to meet obligations, resulting in the grounding of a portion of its fleet.

Last Friday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conditionally allowed Go First to resume its operations. The DGCA permitted the airline to operate 15 aircraft and conduct 114 daily flights, subject to the availability of interim funding and approval of the flight schedule by the regulator.

As part of the resumption process, the airline conducted “handling” flights from Mumbai, which are standard procedures when aircraft remain grounded for an extended period. These handling flights ensure that the aircraft are operation-ready and in compliance with DGCA guidelines.

Go First, which has around 4,200 employees, reported total revenue from operations amounting to ₹4,183 crore in the financial year 2021-22. The grounding of Go First flights had reportedly put pressure on airfares, particularly on routes where the airline had a significant presence.

While the airline is working towards resuming operations, the continued cancellations have impacted travelers and raised concerns about the future of the company. Passengers and stakeholders are closely watching the developments as Go First navigates through its operational challenges and strives to overcome the obstacles it faces in the aviation industry.
