The collaboration involves the supply of advanced driver assistance technology for Mahindra’s upcoming vehicles, along with joint efforts on developing a fully autonomous driving system tailored for the Indian market. The announcement was made by Mobileye at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Mobileye, based in Jerusalem, Israel, specializes in manufacturing chips and systems for advanced driver assistance technology, ranging from driver assistance features to lower levels of autonomous driving. As Israel’s most valuable publicly traded company in terms of market capitalization, Mobileye brings its expertise to India’s automotive sector through this collaboration with Mahindra.

Addressing Road Safety Challenges in India

India’s roads are known for their high accident rates, with over 900,000 people killed or disabled in crashes annually. The economic impact of road accidents in India is estimated at $156 billion, according to the World Bank. The introduction of advanced driver assistance technology is expected to play a crucial role in mitigating road safety challenges by offering features that enhance driver awareness and vehicle control.

Previous Integration and Future Prospects

Mahindra initially incorporated Mobileye’s driver assistance features in the XUV7OO SUV in 2021. With this new collaboration, the companies aim to extend the integration of advanced driver assistance systems across Mahindra’s next-generation vehicles. Additionally, they will explore the development of a fully autonomous driving system tailored to India’s unique driving conditions.
