High Demand, Long Waits: Xiaomi’s SU7 Electric Sedan Faces Delays for Buyers

Xiaomi’s Entry into EV Market Draws Strong Interest but Lengthy Delivery Times

As Xiaomi ventures into the electric vehicle (EV) market with its SU7 sedan, potential buyers are facing significant wait times of up to seven months, underscoring the high demand for the company’s inaugural automotive offering.

Xiaomi, renowned for its smartphones and consumer electronics, initiated sales of its SU7 electric sedan recently, triggering a surge in pre-orders. Within the first 24 hours of availability, the company received a staggering 88,898 pre-orders, reflecting the enthusiastic response from consumers.

However, prospective buyers are now being informed that deliveries of the standard SU7 model, priced at 215,900 yuan ($29,870), could take between 18 to 21 weeks. Meanwhile, those opting for the SU7 Pro model may face similar wait times, with delivery estimates ranging from 18 to 21 weeks. The highest-priced variant, priced at 299,900 yuan, might entail even longer wait times, stretching from 27 to 30 weeks.

This unprecedented demand for Xiaomi’s SU7 comes amid a fiercely competitive landscape in China’s EV market, which boasts over 40 brands vying for consumer attention. Xiaomi’s entry into this space with the SU7 sedan has garnered attention, particularly due to its design, which has drawn comparisons with luxury sports car models like Porsche’s Taycan and Panamera.

The intense competition in China’s auto market was further highlighted by recent promotional offers from other EV manufacturers. Huawei-backed Aito announced discounts of up to 20,000 yuan on its new M7 SUVs until the end of April, while Xpeng introduced subsidies of a similar amount on its flagship electric SUV G9 for a limited time.

As Xiaomi navigates the EV landscape and strives to meet the soaring demand for its SU7 sedan, consumers eagerly await the arrival of their electric vehicles, eagerly anticipating the blend of Xiaomi’s technological prowess with the innovation of electric mobility.
