Hero MotoCorp Accelerates Electrification Drive, Plans Launch of Three Electric Two-Wheelers by Early 2023

In a significant move towards embracing electric mobility, Hero MotoCorp, a leading player in the two-wheeler market, has announced plans to introduce three new electric two-wheelers within the next year. The company’s CEO, Niranjan Gupta, shared this ambitious electrification roadmap during the unveiling of their latest performance bike, the MAVRICK 440. Additionally, Hero MotoCorp is ramping up production to a monthly target of 10,000 units to cater to the rising demand in the motorcycle segment.

Gupta outlined the electrification strategy, stating, “In FY25, we will launch electric scooters in the mid-price segment and in the economy segment to extend our Vida range.” Furthermore, he revealed the company’s intention to enter the business-to-business (B2B) last-mile delivery segment with another electric two-wheeler, recognizing the substantial potential in this market.

While addressing the potential collaboration with California-based Zero Motorcycles for electric bikes, Gupta acknowledged that it would take time due to the evolving nature of the Indian market and associated costs. However, he emphasized leveraging technology from the partnership to develop electric motorcycles for the mass market segment in the future.

To bolster electric vehicle (EV) sales, Hero MotoCorp is expanding the availability of its Vida range to cover 100 cities, with plans to enter an additional 100 cities within the next year. Gupta also revealed the company’s initiative to establish exclusive Vida small stores to enhance accessibility.

The recently unveiled MAVRICK 440 marks Hero MotoCorp’s entry into the premium segment, where it competes with the likes of Royal Enfield. Gupta expressed the company’s commitment to enhancing its position in this segment, which also includes the sale of Harley Davidson’s HD440X. The production of MAVRICK 440 is set to reach 10,000 units per month by March this year, reflecting the positive response from the market.

With orders for HD440X reaching 25,000 units initially and an additional 5,000 units added to the order book, Hero MotoCorp aims to make a mark in the premium segment and establish a strong presence in the evolving electric mobility landscape.
