BYD Seal EV Set to Make Waves in India: Launch Date, Pricing, and Specifications Revealed

Chinese automaker BYD is poised to introduce its latest electric vehicle, the BYD Seal EV, to the Indian market on March 5. Anticipation is building as the launch date approaches, with BYD dealers already accepting unofficial bookings for the much-anticipated EV. Here’s a comprehensive overview of what to expect from the BYD Seal EV.

BYD Seal EV India Price (Expected): The BYD Seal EV is anticipated to come with an ex-showroom price tag of approximately Rs 50 lakh. Positioned as a formidable competitor to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, priced at Rs 45.95 lakh (ex-showroom), the BYD Seal EV aims to carve its niche in the burgeoning Indian electric vehicle market.

BYD Seal EV India Specifications (Expected):

  • Battery and Range: The EV is likely to feature a robust 982.5kWh battery pack, offering an impressive claimed range of 570km on the WLTP cycle.
  • Powertrain: With rear-wheel drive, the BYD Seal EV will be powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor generating 230hp of power and 360Nm of torque. It boasts an acceleration from 0 to 100kmph in just 5.9 seconds.
  • Charging Capabilities: Equipped with a 150kW charger, the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in a swift 37 minutes. Using a regular 11kW charger, a full 0 to 100 percent charge can be achieved in 8.6 hours.
  • Dual-Motor AWD Variant: BYD is expected to offer a dual-motor all-wheel-drive variant with a claimed range of 520km and a peak power of 530hp.

The BYD Seal EV draws design inspiration from the Ocean X concept showcased in 2021, adhering to BYD’s distinctive ‘ocean aesthetics’ design language. Standout features include a coupe-like all-glass roof, boomerang-shaped LED DRLs, a split headlamp design, flush-fitting door handles, and a striking full-width LED light bar at the rear.

Inside, the EV is likely to boast a 15.6-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a heads-up display. Additional features may include basic controls for functions like a heated windscreen, audio system volume control, and two wireless charging pads.
