MP Shrirang Barne’s Silt Removal Drive Revolutionizes Water Storage at Pavana Dam, Alleviating Scarcity

Pimpri, 20th June 2023: MP Shrirang Barne, a member of the Shiv Sena party, has taken the initiative to boost the water storage capacity of Pavana Dam in Pimpri through a silt removal drive. This drive has resulted in a significant increase in the dam’s capacity to hold water, providing relief to the residents of Maval and Pimpri-Chinchwad who have been facing water scarcity issues. Approximately 15,000 cubic meters of silt have been successfully extracted over the past seven years, contributing to the enhanced reservoir capacity.

The primary objective of this endeavor is to address the water scarcity challenges in the region and improve the livelihoods of local farmers. The extracted silt is being repurposed for agricultural use, benefiting the farming community in the area.

MP Srirang Barne recently conducted an inspection of the ongoing silt removal operations at Pavana Dam, accompanied by prominent figures and members of the community. The visit highlighted the progress made and the positive impact of the silt removal project on water storage capabilities.

Pavana Dam holds a critical role in supplying water to the villages of Pimpri-Chinchwad and supporting agricultural activities in the region. Prior to MP Shrirang Barne’s intervention, no significant efforts had been made to increase the dam’s storage capacity since its construction in 1972. The silt removal project has successfully extracted a total of 76,000 cubic meters of silt over the years, effectively addressing the limitations on water storage.

The project has had a profound impact on mitigating water scarcity in Maval and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Moreover, the repurposed silt has found practical applications in local nursery and orchard businesses, providing additional benefits to the agricultural community.

The silt removal drive led by MP Shrirang Barne has not only increased the water storage capacity of Pavana Dam but also brought relief to the residents and farmers in the region. The initiative serves as a testament to the commitment of the Shiv Sena party and its representatives to address crucial issues and improve the lives of the people they serve.
