Pune: Fursungi and Uruli Devachi villages were merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation but a huge amount of property tax was being collected without providing any facilities. The villagers opposed this and made a demand to the CM that they should be excluded from PMC limits and the final process of doing so has begun.
Now, the demand for setting up a municipal corporation for Hadapsar has been relegated to the background and a demand is being made that the gram panchayats of Loni Kalbhor, Uruli Kanchan and Kadamwakvasti should be merged and a municipal council should be formed.
After most of the villages in Haveli taluka’s eastern parts were included in PMC limits, a demand was being made for setting up of a Hadapsar municipal corporation which will include Fursungi, Uruli Devachi, Manjri, Shewalewadi, Loni Kalbhor and Wagholi. However, after Fursungi and Uruli Devachi made a demand for the setting up of a municipal council, the demand for forming Hadapsar municipal corporation was relegated to the backburner. The process of taking a final decision about forming a municipal council for these two villages has started.
The population of Fursungi is 66,000 and Uruli Devachi is 10,000. A B category municipal council can be formed for these villages. Now, a demand is being made that the three gram panchayats of Loni Kalbhor, Uruli Kanchan and Kadamwakvasti should be merged and a municipal council should be formed. The population of these three villages will be more than one lakh and hence, a new municipal council can be formed.
The gram panchayat does not have adequate funds for development works. If a municipal council is formed, more funds could be available. Hence, money can be spent on roads, grounds, water supply and sewage system and a planned township can be formed. Hence, a demand is being made about forming a municipal council.
