In a significant move to address traffic congestion concerns, the Pune Municipal Corporation has introduced a new traffic flow adjustment at Kalyani Chowk. Motorists traveling from Koregaon Park to Kalyani Nagar can now make a left turn at Kalyani Chowk without waiting at the signal, providing a much-needed solution to the persistent congestion issues in the area.
Navigating the Congestion Challenge: Turning Left from Kalyani Chowk
The decision comes as a relief for commuters who regularly face traffic jams during morning hours while heading from Koregaon Park to Kalyani Nagar. Previously, the delay caused by traffic signals at Kalyani Chowk prevented motorists from making a left turn towards Kalyaninagar immediately. This resulted in significant wait times and congestion for drivers, sometimes lasting up to 15 to 20 minutes.
Widening Roads for Smooth Traffic Flow
To implement this traffic improvement, the Pune Municipal Corporation’s Road Department has expedited the road widening project on North Main Road No. 7, stretching from the crematorium to Kalyani Chowk. The ongoing construction work includes provisions to facilitate a left turn for vehicles heading from Koregaon Park to Kalyaninagar, ensuring a smoother flow of traffic without halting at the signal.
Anticipated Reduction in Congestion
The initiative is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion at Kalyani Chowk, benefiting motorists and streamlining the daily commute for residents traveling to Kalyani Nagar. Commissioner Vikram Kumar assured that the ongoing road widening efforts and the introduction of the left turn facility would contribute to alleviating the traffic woes in the area.
