VI Joins the Race: Successful 5G Testing in Pune’s Key Frequency Bands

Pune, August 18, 2023: Keeping pace with technological advancements, Vodafone Idea (VI) has taken a significant step forward by successfully conducting 5G testing in the prominent 26 GHz and 3.4 GHz frequency bands. The Department of Telecom, Maharashtra, announced the triumphant completion of these tests in the Maharashtra Licensed Service Area (LSA) of Pune on August 16. The testing site was strategically chosen at Ghole Road within the city.

This milestone achievement holds substantial importance, as it aligns with the Department of Telecommunication’s stringent requirements for minimum rollout obligations. VI’s proactive approach to testing its 5G capabilities comes as the company seeks to fulfill its obligations across various circles. Notably, VI had previously faced the prospect of not meeting these obligations in 15 out of the 17 circles where it had acquired spectrum through an auction conducted in the preceding year.

The successful testing of 5G services in the 26 GHz and 3.4 GHz bands marks a strategic move by VI to ensure it remains on track to meet its rollout obligations. By demonstrating its technical prowess in these key frequency bands, VI is taking essential steps to usher in the era of 5G connectivity, promising faster speeds, enhanced data capabilities, and transformative experiences for consumers.

It’s worth mentioning that VI is not alone in this endeavor. Industry peers, such as Bharti Airtel and Jio, have also made significant strides in their 5G initiatives, with both companies successfully fulfilling their minimum rollout obligations. Jio, in particular, had previously conducted its 5G testing (MRO Phase 1) in the 26 GHz band at Shanti Nagar, Wanowrie Pune, and in the 3.5 GHz band at Wadagon, Maval, Pune, culminating in a successful completion on August 7, 2023, as confirmed by the Department of Telecom.
