Rhea Chakraborty, who found herself at the center of a major controversy following the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in 2020, received a sign of relief as the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) decided not to challenge her bail granted by the Bombay High Court. Rhea had been arrested by the police in connection with a drug case registered under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. After her release on bail, the NCB’s final verdict not to challenge it prompted Rhea to express her gratitude through a cryptic Instagram post.
In a short video shared on her Instagram stories, Rhea Chakraborty simply wrote “Gratitude” alongside a prayer sign emoji. Sporting a content smile, Rhea, dressed in a grey tee with her hair left open, seemed pleased with the NCB’s decision. The video ended with Rhea winking at the camera. Although she did not write an elaborate thank-you note or provide any detailed explanation, it was clear that Rhea was acknowledging the NCB’s new decision, which brought a smile to her face.
Rhea Chakraborty and others were charged with allegedly procuring drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput, who passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 2020. Rhea was arrested on September 8, 2021, and later granted bail by the Bombay High Court on October 4, 2021. The court ruled out her involvement in illegal drug trafficking, emphasizing that providing money to purchase narcotic drugs did not automatically imply guilt.
In light of the recent decision, SV Raju, the Additional Solicitor General, approached the Bombay High Court, requesting that the interpretation of Section 27A be kept open for consideration. However, they clarified that they were not challenging the grant of bail and requested that the order not be considered a precedent.
