Kurien Mathews, a stalwart in the world of branding and a dedicated philanthropist, has bid adieu, leaving behind a legacy that transcends industries. With a career spanning over three and a half decades, Mathews’ impact on digital marketing and brand strategy has been profound.

A Distinguished Career in Branding

Throughout his remarkable journey, Mathews left an indelible mark on renowned brands such as Sony, Nivea, Limca, Amul, Frooti, Samsonite, Platinum Guild, Bajaj Allianz, Electrolux, BPL Mobile, CNBC, Malayala Manorama, Yamaha, IndianOil Servo, Medimix, Dainik Bhaskar, Fortis, and many more. His expertise played a pivotal role in shaping their brand identities and success stories.

Author and Industry Contributor

In 2008, Mathews co-authored the book “Brands Under Fire” with Ivan Arthur, a testament to his deep insights into branding challenges. His contributions extended beyond brands; he actively served on the Managing Committee of the Advertising Agencies Association of India and lent his expertise as a member of the AAAI Awards Jury.

A Visionary Leader

Mathews co-founded Anthem Communications in 1988, a venture that would later merge with TBWA WW as TBWA Anthem in India. Under his visionary leadership, the company flourished into one of India’s largest communications services groups, boasting 350 professionals across 7 offices.

Diverse Ventures and Strategic Acquisitions

After his tenure at TBWA, Mathews ventured into diverse industries, leveraging his prowess in Branding, Organisational Management, Strategy, and General Management. In 2021, he spearheaded a successful joint venture between Rage Communication and ADK of Japan, culminating in a 100% acquisition in 2023. Amidst the challenges posed by the pandemic in 2020, Mathews orchestrated a strategic investment in Conscious Food, resulting in a remarkable four-fold growth within 30 months and setting the stage for a significant Series A fund raise in mid-2024.

A Philanthropic Heart

Mathews, an alumnus of Harvard Business School (AMP 161, Fall 2001), remained deeply committed to various non-profit organizations throughout his life. His legacy extends beyond the corporate world, touching the lives of many through his philanthropic endeavors.
