Rajinikanth’s “Jailer” Breaks Box Office Records: Claims 5th Spot Among Highest-Grossing Indian Films of 2023

Mumbai, 15th August 2023: The eagerly awaited cinematic masterpiece, “Jailer,” directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and featuring the iconic Rajinikanth in the lead role, has graced theaters with its presence, garnering praise from critics and solidifying its position as the fifth highest-grossing Indian film of 2023. Amidst its triumph, discussions about the movie’s digital rights and potential streaming platforms are generating considerable buzz across social media platforms.

According to recent reports, Sun Pictures, a production company owned by Kalanithi Maran, in collaboration with Netflix, has successfully acquired the digital streaming rights for “Jailer.” The film is slated to be available for streaming on the Sun NXT platform. Furthermore, Sun Network has secured the satellite rights for “Jailer” across its various language versions, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.

Insider sources suggest that following its 28-day theatrical run, “Jailer” will transition to the Sun NXT platform. This anticipated transition is projected to occur around September 6th or 7th, although an official confirmation is still pending.

Upon its recent theatrical release, “Jailer” made an impactful debut during its opening weekend. Premiering on Thursday, August 10th, the film’s extended weekend contributed to a global box office collection estimated to surpass Rs 300 crore. By its fourth day in Indian cinemas, the movie had reportedly raked in approximately Rs 38 crore, encompassing earnings from all language versions. Concluding the opening weekend, “Jailer” boasted an impressive cumulative total of Rs 146.40 crore in India alone.

“Jailer” is an enthralling action thriller presented in the Tamil language, skillfully directed by Nelson and supported by Kalanithi Maran’s Sun Pictures. Alongside Rajinikanth, the film boasts a talented ensemble cast including Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Sunil, Mirnaa Menon, and Yogi Babu in pivotal roles.

As Rajinikanth’s 169th cinematic endeavor, “Jailer” signifies the superstar’s triumphant return to the silver screen after a two-year hiatus since his last appearance in “Annaatthe.” The film’s musical score, composed by Anirudh Ravichander, and the expert cinematography by Vijay Kartik Kannan, coupled with meticulous editing by R. Nirmal, contribute to its cinematic excellence.

Presently, Rajinikanth is deeply engrossed in the filming of his upcoming sports drama, “Lal Salaam,” directed by his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth. The film also features Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth, with a special cameo appearance by Kapil Dev.
