Pune techie arrested by Mumbai crime branch after Supriya Sule’s complaint.

A 32-year-old IT professional from Pune was taken into custody on Sunday for reportedly making a death threat against NCP leader Sharad Pawar. The individual has been placed in police custody until June 14th.

On Sunday, the Mumbai Police crime branch apprehended an IT professional from Pune, Sagar Barve, for allegedly making a death threat towards NCP leader Sharad Pawar. Barve, 32 years old, was presented before the Esplanade court on the same day and has been granted police custody until June 14th. The threat against Sharad Pawar was purportedly posted by Barve on Facebook.

Following death threats received by Sharad Pawar on social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, his daughter Supriya Sule lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police.

The individual responsible for the threatening post, Sagar Barve, used the handle “Narmadabai Patvardhan” on Facebook. The post suggested that Pawar would face a fate similar to Narendra Dabholkar, an activist against superstition who was fatally shot by two individuals on motorcycles in 2013.

While investigations are ongoing, the police have stated that Barve, during the preliminary inquiry, is not affiliated with any political party.

In a separate incident, an NCP worker filed a case at the Lokmanya Tilak Marg police station regarding the threatening Facebook message.

As part of the investigation, the crime branch determined that the IP address used to upload the threatening post on Facebook belonged to Barve.

Further investigation is underway to trace the person who posted the threat on Twitter.
