Blood samples of three more persons, who came in contact with the patient in Mundhwa, have been sent for examination to the National Institute of Virology (NIV). Moreover, the Pune Municipal Corporation has immediately fumigated 100 houses each in the affected areas.

A 46-year-old doctor and his 15-year-old daughter tested positive for the disease in Erandwana. The PMC sent blood samples of five pregnant women and three suspected patients to the NIV.

A 47-year-old woman contracted the infection in Mundhwa. Her test report from a private laboratory was positive. Her blood sample was also sent to the NIV. Later, blood samples of her three family members and nine neighbours were also sent to the NIV. Now samples of three more persons have been dispatched. This was revealed by Assistant Health Officer Dr Rajesh Dighe.

Preventive measures are being taken in the affected areas. Fumigation has been done in 100 houses each in Erandwana and Mundhwa. Zika virus-carrying mosquitoes are found inside homes too. Mosquito-breeding sites at construction projects are being destroyed. Moreover, building owners have also been issued notices in this connection, said Dr Dighe.
